The Black Mountain
Today's trip took us out to the Black Mountain or western Fans. My blip shows part of our target climb - Fan Foel and Fan Brycheiniog (802m) - from near the start point. A very boggy walk in up to the beautiful hidden lake (Llyn y Fan Fawr) at the foot of the ridge then a windy climb to the top, around Bannau Sir Gaer to overlook Llyn y Fan Fach. We finished by walking the Fan Hir ridge (on the left) and dropping down to the valley. The weather was perfect, the landscape was wonderful and, despite nursing yesterday's injuries (including a pulled hamstring), I survived the 12 miles and 4,000 feet of climbing.
