Not a Rose, by any Name
After the hullabaloo of snowdrops and aconites - enjoying first-mover advantage - these come along and get ignored. The RHS says they are called 'winter wildflower' - odd because they flower in spring, and they are not a wildflower, nor even much naturalised in Britain. Also called Grecian wildflower, because that is where they come from - perhaps they do flower in true winter there
Though they look like daisies, they are actually buttercups - or at least that part of the buttercup Order that we call anemones. Even then, there is dispute about whether they are 'true' anemones (genus Anemone) or 'anemone-like' (genus Anemonoides). This one is not fully flowered; if you zoom in, you can see that the stamens are still folded over and not yet exposing any pollen
Do names matter? There is a fuss among the right-wing podcasting classes about what qualifies someone to be 'English'. Some of them say they are happy to accept that Rishi Sunak is British, but not that he is English because, well, a brown Hindu just can't be. This racist ethno-nationalism is so thinly veiled that it is embarrasing to write it down, but people are out there arguing about it, determined that everyone should have one and only one label, neatly classified. They would hate anemonies
