Hellebores

It was a fairly bright start to the day. The engineer turned up early and our internet was quickly put into working order. I then decided to do a bit more weeding on the allotment. By now the weather had clouded over. As l was trying to remove the couch grass with its long roots wriggling around the raspberry canes l felt like l was training to become an archeologist. A little progress was made.

After lunch l went to a Spring Garden Show in a nearby village. I knew some friends would be there. I had wondered just what flowers would be in the competitions but there was a fair amount of colour. My favourite flowers were the hellebores floating in various bowls of water. There were lots of daffodils of different sizes and some mixed floral and leaf arrangements. Cakes and marmalade are also judged. They have one competition for men only which this year was a Victoria Sponge. My friend’s husband won first prize and his friend second prize.

We managed to fit a quick walk along the river getting back in time for the overall trophies.
