I have returned to Aberdeen briefly, for a football match at 12.30 tomorrow. The early kick off seemed like the perfect justification for an overnight stay. 

It is the kind of trip which becomes very attractive knowing I can do the travel on a fast, comfortable bus - for free.

In the afternoon I took a city bus over to King’s College and did a little workout at the sports field. I played rugby there many decades ago. My dad played football there many decades before that. My grandparents lived across the street. 

I enjoyed it for its own sake, and for the bigger picture. It was a good way to stretch out after too much time on buses and planes and trains this week, to say nothing of the hours parked behind a desk.

I chanced on a tiny Georgian restaurant close to my hotel. Dinner was khinkali washed down with kvass. An unexpected treat.

My Blip is the clubhouse at King’s College. It used to have a cafe on the upper level, and it was a favourite escape from the library next door. Spot the daffodil…
