Pretty Pulmonaria
I've got lots of bulbs and cowslips coming up in the garden, but apart from a few scattered crocus and some pansies, the borders are still largely lacking colour. Except of course, for these pretty pulmonaria which are always the first to bloom. I just love the way the plant displays pink and blue flowers on the same stems. Once the flowers are gone then it produces a lot of useful and attractive spotty foliage as ground cover.
B and I went along to a fascinating talk given by a gentleman from 'Medical Detection Dogs' at our local library this morning. It was fascinating and inspiring as he explained how they train their dogs to detect certain medical conditions, such as cancer, viruses, malaria etc. They also provide medical assistance dogs who are able to tell if their Type 1 diabetic owner's blood sugar is too low or too high and can warn them in time for the owner to test their glucose levels and take remedial action. This is a life-saver for these owners. It seems that some medical organisations are resistant to using this wonderful and surprisingly accurate detection resource, which is such a shame. After lunch, M and I headed off to Sheringham. We sat up on the cliffs near the boating pond and enjoyed watching the tide going out with some spring sunshine warming our backs. The we headed off to buy our first Norfolk-made ice cream of the year from Ronaldo's. Apple crumble for me and Sicilian Kiss (chocolate and some kind of alcohol) for M.
