A mighty tailback

When I'm not caught up in it myself, I find intense traffic quite absorbing.

For example, there is a junction in Salford where The Crescent meets Trinity Way. When I'm driving, it is, quite literally, the only junction in Britain that I go out of my way to avoid.

On foot, though, and especially during the morning rush hour on our way to the office, I can't take my eyes of it; it's absolute carnage. Left to my own devices, I think I'd find somewhere to sit with my coffee and just watch as drivers make ill-judged passage across the junction, find they can't exit, thereby blocking the cross-traffic when the lights change.

Today, as we drove north to Kirkby Lonsdale, it became clear that there was something very wrong on M6. A little investigation revealed that it was closed from Junction 37 (Sedbergh) down to 34 (Lancaster).

It's hard to imagine anywhere section worse suited to the situation, with cars having to find alternative routes along small, windy roads.

This particular bit of road runs from Halton to the Redwell Inn, and it's part of our favoured route from the M6 to home. Normally, you'll hardly see another car but today it was *packed*. Actually getting through Halton was tortuous.

Still, we all right, heading north, and we were back home in good time and I made some ragu to have with pasta for dinner, and it was excellent!
