AT LAST - A BUTTERFLY!
Just when I thought there was nothing of interest, this pretty butterfly caught my eye as it landed on some impatiens in my yard. I’ve seen a couple moths this summer, but butterflies are a very rare sight. At first it was on the white petals, but soon went to the orange – I wonder if it was an attempt at camouflage. (Not sure if butterflies do that.) It’s called a silvery checkerspot (chlosyne nycteis) – at least that’s the closest I came to a match online. There are so many varieties of butterflies (let alone all the other insects), so many names to learn - imagine an entomologist conquering this feat!
