Conjoined Branches

I thought this tree looked odd but interesting at first glance, with the shapes formed by the branches.  As I looked further I noticed that one of the branches appeared to be joined to another branch - the one going upwards from the far left at a 45° angle.  I cannot decide where the branch grew from first.
