Crovie whalebone
The village of Crovie has been described as the jewel of the North East of Scotland and who am I to disagree. Largely abandoned after the Great Gale of 1953 and now inhabited by only a couple of natives, most of the sixty odd houses are now second homes or holiday lets. Today I was privileged to meet the one man who was born in the fishing village and who still lives there. After a wee while in conversation I asked him about the whalebone which I had been told was possibly still in someone’s back yard.
Seemingly a sperm whale was beached in the cove over 20 years ago. Here is a part of it.
