Not a Bee!

The sunny weather lured me out of the house early for a visit to The Vyne. 

I was surprised to see that snowdrops were still in full bloom, and how many there were around the estate - in all the years I’ve been visiting I don’t recall seeing so many.

Even better there were some bees flying enjoying the flowers and sun - except they were not bees. Funnily enough I had been reading about drone bees in my RHS magazine today. They are bee mimics but have no sting and only one pair of wings rather than two, and I’m pretty sure that this is what we see here.

It was good to get out and I was back in time for lunch!
