Lumley Mill

We had a frosty start to the day with the temperature reading -3.5 at 7am this morning. It was beautiful and sunny so after breakfast I went to the allotment to do a few small jobs then walked on to the village to get bread from the bakery. Afterwards Merlin and I spent a couple of hours walking locally. He does like to potter and spend time considering smells and the sunshine and birdsong means I’m more inclined to let him linger than on less inspiring days.

This afternoon I returned to the allotment to put some pots over the rhubarb which is starting to grow - in the hope of getting some forced rhubarb. I also emptied one of the compost bins and spread the compost on some of the beds and began to refill the bin with manure and wood chip.

My blip is of the large house which is part of Lumley Mill in Emsworth. It was built in the early 1800s by the then owner of the mill who was a prosperous baker and miller-cum-businessman from Portsmouth. It’s recently been repainted so was looking bright and pristine in the sunshine today.
