MonoMonday: Narrative, every picture tells a story

Many thanks to LesleyAlsfordGillyH for hosting the MM challenge this month - I do like their choice of themes.

For today's blip my Editor came to the rescue with an idea. Of course logs like these tell a story in themselves, the rings telling how old they are and the dead ivy clinging to them indicating that I'd cut it back some time ago.

However there's more to the story. A year past Christmas we were kindly given a kit for growing Shiitake mushrooms but somehow we never got round to starting it off. The instructions say to acquire a suitable log, then send for the actual mushroom starters (they have to be used soon after receipt). Then we need to drill holes in the log, insert the starters and plug the holes with special wax. Then keep it all moist.

A couple of weeks ago we had some tree pruning done in the garden so we asked to keep these logs. We'll be sending for the mushroom pack soon...no doubt I'll blip the results (successful or otherwise!) in due course.
