Defensive Duties

All four of us turned out for Park Run on a crisp, sunny morning with frost underfoot. It was very pleasant to jog round in.

This afternoon Chris and I were back at Huish Park for a strange game against a strong Southend team who scored after just 45seconds with their first attack.

It looked like being a long afternoon but then we scored two goals in about 5 minutes after quarter of an hour to turn the game around.

Our second goal was scored by our captain Frank Nouble, on far left in thumbnail, who hadn’t scored a goal all season until two games ago and has now scored in each of the last 3. In the photo he’s about to clear a Southend effort off the line.

The rest of the game consisted of us defending resolutely against constant Southend attacks, turning out to be the long afternoon we expected.

Just as it looked like we were going to hold out for a well-deserved win, they equalised in the 4th of 5 minutes of added time.

It was a real shame we couldn’t hold on for that extra minute but, as we kept telling ourselves all the way home, weekday have settled for a draw before the game started!
