Island Day of church and jazz

B & I had tickets to a jazz concert on Gabriola Island, so decided to make a day of it.   We caught the 9:20 ferry from downtown Nanaimo for the 20 minute ride to "Gabe" and drove to our son's home for coffee before going to their church.  Called Gabriola Fellowship Church the lay minister said they are a "post-denomination" church.  My disappointment was their music - praise worship, no hymn books.  Give me a hymnbook with notes please.
Next was lunch at the Surf Lodge - delicious. and baby slept in her car seat at Mom's feet the entire time we were there!
After going our separate ways, we had time to fill before the concert so we drove to Berry Point (Orlebar Point on Marine charts) for today's photo.  The buildings are Entrance Island Lighthouse which has a most interesting history:   https://www.lighthousefriends.com/light.asp?ID=1105.
The mountains in the distance are the North Shore Mountains of Vancouver.  The weather was perfect, sunny but cold.

And then, the purpose of our trip - the John Capon Trio.  John is 84 years old, a professional bass trombone player for years, and was director of Malaspina Choir when I joined about 35 years ago.  He jams with 2 friends (guitar and double bass) every Friday and they decided to put on a concert - it was good old New Orleans style jazz, friendly banter; and John & I had a good blether before the show and in the interval.

The sun was setting as we sailed back to Nanaimo - a lovely day.
