Bumbling in the Balsam

It was the sound rather than anything else that encouraged my first blip. The sound of dozens of bumble bees (of all sorts of species) fully engaged in addressing themselves to the nectar contained in these balsam plants. The balsam is, I think, a non native species and no doubt many will consider it to be a pernicious weed.

I did not see any honeybees working it and collecting nectar, but the bumbles are clearly glad it is here and they are thriving on it.

Soon no doubt the balsam will be in all the waterways of our Island of Mann.
