Dunollie
Overcast at times today, but other times bright and quite warm.
Walked to Dunollie to see the progress on the MacDougall collection displays there. And to try out the new outdoor tearoom – very nice. This knapweed, ragwort and meadowsweet was growing on the roadside at the foot of Dunollie Castle. The island in the background is Kerrera.
Decided to come back via the castle ruins, which we’ve done hundreds of times before, only to find at the bottom of the steep hill to the road that the gate was blocked off. Quite rightly the owners want to direct traffic in through the paying gate now it’s officially opened – the castle has always been free entry as long as I can remember. But for us it meant the long steep trek back up to the castle before being able to get down the long way to the road home. Apparently a sign to tell you that the path is closed is ‘being worked on…..’
