One Month Later

It has been one month, by the calendar, since beloved blipper Chaiselongue/Teleri Williams died unexpectedly at her home in a Languedoc village. Her family's concern for her Blipfoto friends, in the midst of their own grief, and their thoughtful farewell blip, will be long remembered here.

Teleri has been much on my mind, and when the latest issue of Planet, The Welsh Internationalist, arrived yesterday, I was not surprised to see an article by her. In "Solidarity from the Sheepfold: Lessons from the Larzac," Teleri wrote of the ten-year struggle (1971-1981) of farmers in the Larzac region of France against the French government's plan to expropriate their land to extend a military training camp, and its relevance to Wales: "The geographical and political situation of the Larzac, the presence of a 'minority' language and culture, the desire for peace among the campaigners and the attitudes of central government towards 'empty' spaces on the map all resonate with those of us who have followed similar campaigns in Wales over the years." (This link will take you to excerpts from Teleri's article and a note about her death from the Planet staff.

Shadows and sunlight, words and images -- she is with us still.
