Sailing ships and submarines...

The Historic Dockyard at Chatham - where else?

We spent an afternoon here mostly to see the photographic exhibition (including 'lost' photos) from the Antarctic expeditions of Scott and Shackleton which was great - I thoroughly recommend it. Amazing black and white shots of great clarity and a great insight onto their living conditions - which were harsh but strangely included a pianola among other things!

Once there we did some rope making in the 1/4 mile (410m) long Ropery building and checked out the 'Hearts of Oak' exhibition about how the wooden Georgian warships including 'The Victory' were designed and made at these very docks...

So a good afternoon :-)
