A Turn Up For The Books

I hadn't decided where Arlo's afternoon walk was until I'd filled up and washed the car and had lunch, so decided Penicuik House as I hadn't been there this year yet. We started off on a planned route, but I saw an inviting forest path I'd never been down, so took a detour. It was a bit higgledy piggledy, not quite sure where we were I was going, through a forest with fallen trees.. until it opened up in a quite gorgeous lake with little islands. It looks like it was being restored, paths around the sides and trees being cut down. As we walked around it and reached the boathouse I realised it was right next to Penicuik House, but fenced off, so we had to climb over it to return to the normal walk. I reckon the lake is part of the private. houses next to the Big House and I probably shouldn't have been there!
