5000 years ago
At that time there was no harbour here, but a pile-dwelling settlement dating back around 5000 years. The pile-dwelling site covers an area of around 15,000 m2 which corresponds to an area the size of two football pitches. Such settlements have been found around Lake Constance and have also been recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
As dredging of the harbour is planned in the near future, archaeological excavations are currently being carried out in advance. This is now taking place in winter, as there are no boats in the harbour and the water is certainly clearer.
