Rub For Luck…..

The statue of Sir Francis Sharp Powell, on-and-off MP for Wigan in the mid 1800’s until 1910, stands proudly in Mesnes Park on the outskirts of town.
Tradition has been to rub his foot for luck on passing, and the brass shines brightly due to this practice!
It’s been repaired many, many times!
