Life through the lens...

Postcard from Roundhay Park.

It was very frosty when we woke up this morning, but the sky was blue and the sun was shining.

After breakfast we set off to Leeds and Roundhay Park.
For once we easily found a place to park.
Not surprising since the council have now put up parking meters.
However we thought £1 for 2 hours and £2.50 for 4 hours wasn’t too bad.
Took everyone a while to work out how the machines worked! Easy when you know how, and I could pay with my credit card. ( no cash)

We had a very enjoyable walk round the upper lake. So peaceful except for the squabbling coots.
We stopped a while to watch the swan building her nest.
Then just managed to get the last table, outside the Mansion House cafe, for our morning coffee.

Across the road and a look round Canal Gardens where we found a wonderful new board about the history of the Park.

The story begins back in Medieval Times.
Norman lords created huge hunting parks.
In this particular wood one baron ordered his peasants to create a huge bank and ditch to keep deer in.
It became known as Round Hay.

We seem to learn something knew about the area every time we go.

Only slight disappointment was that there weren’t as many crocuses as we have seen in the past.
