It was only quite recently that I learned that I had totally misinterpreted the lyrics of one of my all-time favourite songs. I had always believed that the message of Depeche Mode's Personal Jesus was that having a human being close by who will always be there to support you is preferable to having the distant support of Jesus. In actual fact, the term Personal Jesus is from Priscilla Beaullieu Presley's autobiography, Elvis and Me: The True Story of the Love Between Priscilla Presley and the King of Rock N' Roll. Priscilla Presley made Elvis her Personal Jesus, and that made for a very toxic relationship. Setting up any human as your Personal Jesus is a very unwise move. Only the Son of God can be your Personal Jesus in any meaningful or healthy way.

David Koresh is definitely not Christ.
Neither is Elvis Presley. 
Neither is Dave Gahan. 
Neither am I.
