Back in Time - how history is influenced . . .
A new Football League season - many high hopes again - and many tears to come . . .
I am thinking particularly of my Coventry City Blip Friends, who face a very uncertain future at the hands of money-men. I dedicate my blip today to true Sky Blue fans around the world.

Scarborough Football Club, one of the oldest in England, were formed in 1879 by members of the town's cricket team. In 1898 they moved to the Athletic Ground in Seamer Road – the remains of which are shown here. The stands have been sold and the pitch – well not quite playable !

The amazing story of their decline is given below. In the meantime, spare a thought for Simone Montgomerie, an Aussie Jockey who lost her live at the races yesterday, and the Aussie cricketers who lost the Ashes on the same day.

The decline of SFC began on the last day of the 1998–99 season – when several teams were trying to escape relegation from the Football League.
On the 8th May 1999 Scarborough drew 1–1 at home to Peterborough United. The final whistle blew and Carlisle were still drawing with Plymouth Argyle so the Scarborough fans invaded the pitch to celebrate "survival".
However, several minutes later, news came of a last-minute goal from Carlisle United's on-loan goalkeeper Jimmy Glass. That ensured Carlisle's survival and relegated Scarborough back to the Conference, twelve years after they had left it.

The Club was wound up in June 2007, after 128-years in existence. Their last ever game, on 28 April 2007, was a 1–0 win at Hucknall Town.

A new club, Scarborough Athletic, was established and one year later yet another new club, Scarborough Town, also came into existence. The latter has since been disbanded.

For the 2013-14 season Scarborough Athletic will play in the Northern Premier League Division One South. Home games are played at Queensgate, Bridlington, where the venue is shared with another club, Bridlington Town.

It is hoped that, for the 2014-15 season, a permanent move can be made back to a ground in Scarborough.
