Salmon Sculpture

This weekend I volunteered at Salmonstock, (think micro-mini Woodstock) a festival that is "3 days of fish, fun, and music." Its general purpose is the celebration of salmon, the natural resource that touches the life of every Alaskan in one way or another.

The festival is organized by the Renewable Resources Foundation, and while the main focus is fun (over 50 bands and beer gardens will keep things lively), it's hoped that attendees will become more educated and empowered to protect wild salmon.

Salmonstock is held in Ninilchik, a town about 50 miles from us, and since the town only has about 775 people, the event is huge! Many people just camp out there for the whole weekend.

There were many great murals and other artwork, but I liked this sculpture that was next to the main stage.
