Wood Duck

This is a male Australian Wood Duck. This is a small duck which forms wonderful family groups, sometimes consisting of several generations. Partners generally stick together for life. Here in the mountains, they roam suburban communities, herding ducklings up and down footpaths and across walking tracks. They don't seem to spend nearly as much time around waterways as other duck species but this one was at the local duck pond this afternoon.
