Carreghofa Bottom Lock

It was a lovely sunny (though chilly) day today.  F suggested a walk so we went along the Montgomery Canal from LLanymynech which was most enjoyable.  We saw a couple of long-tailed tits showing great interest in a tree so possibly they will nest there.

The canal is not navigable and most of it was very overgrown with weed.  It's difficult when the work is done by volunteers. This is Carreghofa Bottom Lock.  The winding gear in the thumbnail is unusual according to F.  It's called Reduction Gear and is used for opening the paddles to fill the locks.
