On the Hour in Ardgour

If you are “frequent flyer” to the Wild West of Morvern, Kingairloch or Sunart then this is an expression you will learn quickly. Despite the familiarity of the slogan to this less frequent flyer I invariably get caught out.

I refer of course to the Corran Ferry timetable where the half hour sailings depart on and at half past the hour from Ardgour. You can plan the outward trip to coincide with a short wait in the morning but the time taken to pack up upon completion of today’s Strontian project and the drive back to Ardgour saw us rounding that last corner to see the boat just parting company with the slipway ramp. With 29 minutes to elapse till the next sailing it did give an opportunity to walk along the shore for this blip. The vessel on the apparent horizon is the spare Corran Ferry; brought in to service for a couple of weeks every Autumn , when the main boat is away for a service.

There is a bitmac alternative to the ferry but it forces the traveller to take a long detour on winding narrow road around the end of Lochiel to join the A830 Mallaig Road.
