The Titan Crane, Clydebank, River Clyde

After my golf lesson this evening I headed along to Clydebank with the intention of photographing a different aspect of the Clyde to contrast with yesterday's scenic study.

The Titan Crane is situated at the former John Brown's shipyard and has been restored to its former magnificence and is open to the public as a heritage attraction. The restoration works cost over £3 million. If you are interested in its history read more at its website. In 1906, for example, the Lusitania was launched from here -the largest ship in the world at the time. The website is interactive and allows you to select a year and see a photo. It's very good.

I decided to use a composite to convey three ideas - the crane's industrial life as over, in the willowherb shot; its scale with the fields in the distance; and its site at the river's edge in a thriving modern industrial estate.
