Cider wars...

Nava vies with Villaviciosa to be the face of La Comarca de la Sidra - which it translates as "the cider county". Villaviciosa is bigger and probably better known but Nava has the prestigious Museo de la Sidra - Cider Museum. This displays the (mostly wood and stone) machinery and technology that produces cider. But there is a problem: reports have emerged that Villaviciosa is about to create its own Museo de la Sidra. This will not be welcomed by the cider museum in Nava.
The Nava town sign, in its market square, shows cider in the angle of a glass: this because the flat dry Asturian cider is traditionally poured from a height in order to oxygenate it. Main shows the town sign in the market square, extra 1 shows an old town sign depicting the practice of pouring from a height into a tilted glass. Physical statues of this exist to the east and west of the town but I preferred the market square - not least because that´s where I was.  Extra 2 is just a snapshot that I took in passing.
