Railway Station

A railway line between Bristol and Portishead was opened in 1867.  However it closed to passengers in 1964 as part of the Beeching cuts, and to all traffic in 1981.

Much of the track still exists as the line of the route has been protected by planning policies. In recent news the re-opening of the line appears to have been given the go-ahead, with construction hopefully starting this summer and services commencing in Autumn 2027.

The original station serving the pier was closed to allow a new power station to be built alongside the harbour.  The site of the replacement station is now a supermarket, but land leading to it is still protected, although a road giving access to Portishead was built across the line to serve new housing developments in the town. The new station will therefore be build just short of the earlier station, at the site shown in my blip.  I shall try to keep a record of the development of the line and station when construction begins.
