Chitty Chitty Bang Bang shoes

Another trip to London today, this time to see The Pirates of Penzance by English National Opera at the London Coliseum, the photo is of the dome at the theatre.

On the train on the way into London a family group of mum, daughter and grandad sat behind me. Daughter was mid-teens and talked almost non-stop on the journey, not a problem, and did keep me entertained. Early in the journey she mentioned ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang shoes’, I didn’t hear the context but she kept repeating the phrase the whole way into London, trying to explain to her mum and grandad what she meant, but without much more explanation than simply repeating herself. At one point grandad asked if they were what the Oompa Loompas wore and she corrected him that they were in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, not Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

I never did find out what she meant by Chitty Chitty Bang Bang shoes, but really want to know now.
