Nostell Priory ... back facade

Heading home from our mini break near Yorkshire Sculpture Park we called in to visit Nostell Priory. Real shame the house didn't open till the weekend but the grounds were a treat. One thing baffled us ... on the pediment of the rear facade of the house there was this rough stone work. We scratched our heads and wondered if it was for a stonemason to carve into a coat of arms - that was never done.
