King George V Playing Fields
These Heraldic signs are placed at the entrance to a local playing field here in Epsom.
After the death of King George V in 1936 a committee decided that as well as a statue commemorating the late monarch, there would be a number of King George's Fields set up across the United Kingdom to ensure ongoing green spaces for people to enjoy. They are legally protected by The Fields in Trust. There are almost 500 of them and they all have the plaques at the entrances. We have three such parks in Epsom borough which seems to be quite a high percentage of the total.. Maybe you have one in your town?
