The birthday weekend celebrations, part 2. After recovering from the Saturday party, Sunday was a bit more sedate. AnnW treated me to a slap-up dinner at a nice hotel a few miles down the road, the Talbot. The restaurant was relaunched last year with local boy celebrity chef James Martin as executive chef, and it got some great reviews. And being a secret Saturday Kitchen fan (shh!) I was tempted to try it out.

The food was amazing (I recommend the beef cheek) and the place was lovely. We stayed the night, even though we were only about 15 minutes from home, partly as a special treat and partly on practical grounds – the hotel is a few minutes walk to the train station I use to start my weekly commute down to London. So I got a (very small) lie-in.
