On the way home I stopped at Simpele, where there are three restored rapids. There used to be three small hydroelectric power plants and a dam there, which are now decommissioned. The aim was to get the Ladoga salmon to migrate up the rapids from Russia to the Finnish side to spawn, and this plan succeeded beyond expectations.
