"The Old Lighthouse"...
...In South Australia, down at Port Adelaide, an historic old suburb, well known by the imigrants, our pioneers, our ancestors, my ancestors...stands the original structure of the old Lighthouse which was prefabricated in England in 1864, shipped out here and where it was fully constructed..
...21.03 metres (69 feet) tall,
...Lens by Chance Bros. second-order revolving each fifty seconds,
...Character: 3 flashes @ 10 second intervals, followed by an eclipse of 20 seconds,
...Light Source: Pressurised kerosene incandescent burner..
...The Lighthouse was first lit in January 1869 and lighthouse keepers lived in the base of the tower, but due to the hot Australian summers, it was necessary to build more sheltered acommodation beneath the timber decking..
...The Tower stood on South Neptune Island, quite a way from where it is now, until 1985 when it was replaced by an automatic solar powered light.
...In 1985 the Lighthouse was acquired by the South Australian Maritime Museum, restored and reassembled on its present site and opened to the public in 1986..
...So colorful and a real icon of Port Adelaide..
