Dartmoor
This is the Ten Tors Cross. It commemorates a weekend expedition for teenagers in May every year . They have to visit 10 tors and cover between 35 and 55 miles depending on their age.
We visited one tor, the highest in Devon , High Willhays. We could see there was a cloud settling on the top as we set off on the 10km round trip. It didn't lift. In the absence of a view to distract us, we looked for letterboxes.. Not the original letterboxes which started in 1854 where hikers who found them would leave cards for the next finder to post. We found hybrid geocache letterboxes. Easy to find because you have the coordinates on your phone. In the old days you had to follow cryptic clues. The new hybrid ones have rubber stamp that you can use to stamp a note book if you are going to spend ages on the moor finding them. In view of the wind and the cold , we found 2 on the way down from High Willhays and escaped back to the car for hot tea. Extra is the "view" on High Willhays and a letterbox
The map pin is High Willhays not the cross, which is at Okehampton Camp from where we started the walk. Also delighted to find High Willhays is also a marilyn
