Coffee and honeycake
Today we restricted our objectives , giving ourselves a slow start, a leisurely breakfast, and two modest aims: to order some Madeira to collect at the airport and to find the tiny street cafe where we first tasted Madeiran Honeycake on our visit two years ago. Breakfast included saying goodbye to Martin and Mark, with whom we’ve enjoyed some really entertaining conversations - they left this afternoon. It also included a specially gorgeous cake for Valentines Day - I just nibbled a corner of Himself’s bit, honest.
Some time later we set off down and down the 300’ or so to the sea front, remembering from last time the effort of climbing back up again. We marching the prom past the one cruise ship in today and up to the parallel main road where I remembered Blandy’s as being situated. Ordered our Madeira, got our bearings, tried to find “our” cafe - and we’re about to give up when I remembered I’d uploaded a photo of our last time. The presence of a branch of Santander with its red sign gave us a clue to Google - and there it was.
So that’s my photo for today. The climb back up the hill was as exhausting as I’d remembered and led to a general collapse on the sunloungers. Tonight we’re going for the special Valentine’s dinner in the hotel. I may add an extra later - or I may be capable of nothing.
Cheers!
