ON ROUTE 66
Well what a day. First of all the great news - after having had a lovely day out with Hubby I got home to a letter on the door mat. I now have my first Consultation appointment in Preston Hospital Oncology Department for NEXT FRIDAY AT 11.00 AM. This is just the consultation, to discuss my treatment, how long, give me a CT scan etc etc, but blinkin' 'eck that was soooo quick. I only had my last appointment in Lancaster on Monday morning, they would only have put in the referral Monday afternoon, so for me to have received an appointment letter sent via second class post they have got to have posted that out on Tuesday or even Wednesday morning. I'm all of a dither now - in a good way, I was expecting to wait for a couple of weeks before I even heard anything.
This now leaves me in hope of being able to make my badly needed holiday in Fife in April and more importantly being able to attend our Great Niece's Wedding - at least I should know for definite next week. SUCH AMAZING SERVICE.
Now ack down to earth and to today. A couple of people on Blip had said about the Mount Everest exhibition at the Rheged Centre so we decided to have a nice day out and visit. The M6 was so quiet today and no problems at all. Quite a bit of snow high up but a very grey day.
We started off by having brunch at Rheged - a bigger portion than I imaged but boy was it delicious.
Then we spent a couple of hours around this very interesting exhibition. It really brought it home to me that the real heroes of conquering Everest are the Sherpas and Porters, because without them no-one would have been able to get there. It was all interesting but it was the stories of the local people that got me and how poorly the porters in particular are treated and paid - blinkin' 'eck their governments need to think again because without them they wouldn't have the money coming into the economy at all.
After that we just drove down the A66, towards Keswick but when through St John's-in-the-vale thereby avoiding Keswick. It was fairly quiet, although all the lay-bys were full with people presumably walking up the Fells. We stopped off at Low Sizergh Barn for coffee and then came home to the great news on the door step!!!
Well that's it for today - do take care and stay safe and I will see you all tomorrow.
