Farringdon Station
We went to the London Archive this morning which was fascinating. We went for several reasons. It's just up the road and we've never been in. There are two mini-exhibitions on at the moment. "Lost Victorian City" is closing soon. It has wonderful examples of aspects of London that we don't have any more, such as shops specialising in mourning clothes and séance parlours. "London's Tramways Posters" has just opened and has colourful 1920s and 1930s Modernist posters enticing you to visit London's beauty spots by tram.
Last but not least, my photosoc is doing a "Then and Now" project with the Archive later in the year, taking images from their vast historical photo collection and matching them with an image taken in the same spot today. As I was walking past Farringdon Station I thought I would take a matching photo to the 1966 photo on the left. Of course, it's much harder than you might expect. This was the best I could do with my phone. I will try again with a proper zoom lens. It will be good practice for the project.
