West Lodge

The tiny 2 roomed West or Doctor's Lodge at Aden - enigmatic, looking rather like a WW2  pillbox and hard to find. A track now overgrown and blocked by a massive falken tree, rather than a road as is the case with the other entrance lodges ran from the lodge, which was built around 1830, to Aden House. The.name 'Doctor's Lodge probably arose from its proximity to Mavis Bank the home of at least one local doctor James Ritchie.  He was the husband of Anna, after whom Anna Ritchie School in Peterhead is named, in honour of her pioneering work to establish education for children with special educational needs.

The little Lodge is in far worse condition than the others which have been partially restored. I have been trying to find it for some time so was pleased to come upon it unexpectedly whilst admiring the snowdrops featured in yesterday's Blip.
