Osuna

Our longest day yet, we left the hotel at 9am and got back at 6pm having seen a huge number of bird species. We drove for around an hour and a half to the plains of Osuna to find the Great Bustard. They were where our guides expected them to be along with some Little Bustards and a variety of smaller birds. We also saw Black Kites who have just arrived and Red Kites who will be leaving soon.
Next we traveled on to Lagunas de Osuna where we saw a lovely selection of water birds. I love flamingoes and it was great to see them in the wild along with a new bird to me in the extra, Black-winged stilts. There were also several species of shoveller, plover and gulls on the lagoon.
Heading down to dinner soon. I haven’t mentioned the food yet, it is all vegetarian, beautifully created by local celebrity chef Ivan. Yum!
