Hadrians Wall - Milecastle 49.

We fit a LOT in today.

After breakfast we went for a swim, timing it for when they had various pool toys out for playing.  Then we went for a little explore, walking to the railway station, down 99 steps to the foot of the viaduct, along the river a bit, and back up past the old church.

We had afternoon tea in the hotel (delicious), before setting off again for a walk over the viaduct, then we got in the car and headed up to Birdoswald Roman Fort.  We had a look around the exhibitions there, then walked along the wall a little to Milecastle 49, where we took this photo.

We finished the day off with a delicious dinner in The Wheatsheaf in Weatheral.  Cyclops got two wafers in his ice-cream whereas CyclopsJnr only had one (that came with Grandma's coffee) and we were joking about this.  The kind waiter overheard and brough CyclopsJnr a glass with 7 wafers in it to put him back in the lead!  We all had a good laugh at that!
