Warsaw Day 3

Backblip

Today we walked to the Old Town Market Square and visited Muzeum Warszawy - The Museum of Warsaw. This was the artifact or object on display that moved me the most, although there were plenty of others that were memorable.

Shrine made of prison bread
Natalia Eychorn-Hiszpańska: Warsaw, Pawiak Prison, 1943; bread, cardboard
"The bread shrine was made by Natalia Eychorn-Hiszpańska (1904-1944), kept in solitary confinement at Pawiak Prison. She was an underground activist, noms de guerre "Majewska", "Tala" and "Bury Wilk". She was also a scout mistress, a member of the Warsaw Region Command of the Polish Scouting and Guiding Association (ZHP) and a Home Army sublieutenant. She was imprisoned at the Pawiak from 8 May until 20 August 1943. She died of typhus at the Auschwitz concentration camp. The keepsake was donated in 1958 by her sister, Hanna Szwankowska, custodian of the Historical Museum of the City of Warsaw."

Later we went again to the Warsaw Ghetto area and visited Mur Getta Warszawskiego - The Warsaw Ghetto Wall and walked around the area of Pałac Krasińskich - The Krasiński Palace

To lighten the mood we also went window-shopping for the beautiful Polish tableware my mother has been collecting for a few years now.
