Almshouse skyline

Some domestic goddessing in the morning, then I forced myself out into the cold to buy some shampoo and conditioner from the wholefood shop in Holmfirth, but mostly to stretch my legs. Unfortunately, the shop didn't have the items I wanted in stock. After that I crossed the road and went to the Oxfam shop for a browse through the books, and was quite surprised to see the shampoo and conditioner there, so it wasn't an unsuccessful trip. Tempted by a couple of gardening books, but didn't give in to temptation this time!

The walk into Holmfirth was quite pleasant, and there were even some patches of blue sky, but the walk back up the hill was pretty unpleasant, with an icy cold wind howling into my face!

Each time I walk past the Monumental Almshouses, I admire the skyline and the turret.  The five almshouses were built in 1856 as a memorial to the victims of a flood that hit the Holme Valley in 1852, killing more than 80 people. The flood was caused by the bursting of Bilberry Reservoir after a period of heavy rain,
