Adventure On Mount Rokko

On This Day In History

Quote Of The Day
"Don't pray when it rains if you don't pray when the sun shines."
(Satchel Paige)

My hike on Mount Rokko took a lot longer than I planned. Instead of going down the back of Mount Rokko and into Takarazuka as I usually do, I decided to walk to the cable car station and go back into town so that I could be home early. Problem; when I arrived at the cable car station, it was closed today. Never mind, I'll take a bus to the ropeway and get a cable car back into town. Problem; because of the snow, there are no buses running today. It's a nine kilometers walk to the ropeway, and I have a sneaking suspicion I might find that one is closed too. By now, I've decided I don't want to risk hiking down the mountain into town and getting stuck in the forest in the dark, so I stick to the road. Lots of trees, not a building in sight.

It starts to snow as I walk this mountain road with no idea when I will reach a town or city so I start putting out my thumb. Thankfully, after a few cars have driven past one young man stops; him and his male and female passengers are in their late teens/early twenties and all very happy and friendly. It probably would have taken me a about an hour and a half to reach the town with the train station where they drop me off, refusing my offer of payment and thanking me for the company. How kind.

So, in all, I hiked for almost eight hours today and had an unexpected adventure; all part of life's rich tapestry.

And I saw snow!
