Now, as I see it......

Stag in lilac

W had an appointment before 9am at the hospital in Norwich so we had an early start.  She was seen quickly so we decided to head into the town centre for a bit of shopping and to see the exhibition of landscapes inspired by the artist JMW Turner at the art gallery.  Having heard criticism of it we hadn't expected it to be as good as it was; an excellent exhibition with several of Turner's own landscapes but a lot by other artists showing both how they were influenced by him and how the genre developed.

We passed a building which clearly had been a pub in the past, which I guess was called 'The Stag Inn' as this stag was standing on the edge of the roof, looking a bit neglected nowadays.  It reminded me of a landmark in the town where I grew up; a stag on the top of a single storey building which, in those days, was an Off Licence.  Apparently the antlers had been replaced with a rather amateur effort at some point, which don't look good.  Trying to find a bit more detail I found this article from a website listing statues in the North East of England, in which the young man who made the rather bad replacement antlers owns up to it and tells the full story of how it happened!
