1881: Plea bargaining gains favour in American courts

Quote Of The Day
"In many courts, plea bargaining serves the convenience of the judge and the lawyers, not the ends of justice, because the courts simply lack the time to give everyone a fair trial."
(Jimmy Carter)

I left school in a rush today to get to Canadian Academy to see the talent show. Many of the performers are my ex-pupils; a large number of pupils go to either Canadian Academy or Marist Brothers when they graduate from Year Six, which is the final year at St. Michael's.

I was the class teacher for many that I met this evening. Not all of them performed. One of them has become an extremely talented rapper. He used to perform every year in the St. Michael's Arts Showcase, doing something different each year; drumming, dancing, singing. Since joining Canadian Academy he has focused solely on rapping and he is very good at it.

Another young lady used to play classical music on the piano every year in the St. Michael's Arts Showcase ; tonight she played jazz, and she was awesome!

Another young man would also do something different each year in the St. Michael's Arts Showcase. I remember him singing, doing tap dance and (I think) playing guitar, but he played saxophone in his final year and that is clearly where his real talent lies. He was brilliant, and another St. Michael's alumni who I taught played violin with him, along with a drummer, a bass guitarist and a pianist. The piece they played is today's musical link, and they rocked it.

What a great way to end the week!
