Christmas Bonus

We went to Lythym today to help with a project to expand the sand dunes using Christmas trees. This is aimed at reducing coastal erosion, and improving and extending this wildlife habitat. Over 20 years, this has created and expanded the sand dunes by up to 95m. The trees slow the flow of wind blown sand and allow it to accumulate more.

We took our 2 year old with us on a gorgeous sunny day (I nearly said summer's day).  Over 2,000 trees had been collected to be dug into the sand in two long trenches.  We did some thatching, which was planting branches off the trees to form a secondary line.

Over 200 volunteers today, and more yesterday and more tomorrow. Some do look like they are chatting more than working, but they are volunteers so give them a break. Ha ha.
